Every dataset the statewide ranking pages read: who publishes it, which pages use it, the years it covers, when it was collected, and how current it can be.
Every figure on the ranking pages is computed in the browser from the data files listed here, and this page is built from those same files: each year range, latest period and collection date below is read from the file’s own metadata when the site is built, never typed in. Collected is the day the collector script pulled the data. Source updated is the date the publisher last changed the dataset, where the publisher states one. Latest period is the newest year the file contains; the note under each dataset says when the publisher releases a year, which is what decides how current a series can be.
This page was built on 2026-09-16. A newer state release than the latest period shown here may exist if the publisher posted it after the collection date; the collectors under Data/ in the repository pull it on the next run.

“Not recorded” marks a file whose collector wrote no collection stamp. For those the date of the file’s last repository change is given instead; it is a different thing from a collection date, because a refresh that produced no change is not committed, so the file may have been pulled more recently than that date. “Not stated” means the source publishes no last-updated date that the collector can read.

Audited year-end spending, revenue, enrollment, fund balance and bonded debt for every town; also the canonical list of 169 towns every ranking page starts from.
How current it can be: OPM publishes a fiscal year about three years after it closes, once every town's audit is filed and crosswalked. The latest audited year is therefore always well behind the latest adopted budget; that lag is the dataset, not the collection.

Every town's tax-exempt and total assessed property, from which the tax-exempt share is computed; also OPM's grand list by class, mill rates, ACS income, DPH population and CSDE per-pupil figures, kept for auditing the site's other files rather than charted. The pages read the share from the extract ct_tax_exempt_share.json, written beside this file by the same collector.
How current it can be: One long-format file OPM extends with each annual Municipal Fiscal Indicators edition; the exempt-property series starts at grand list 2020 and the newest grand list appears about two years after its October 1 date. Refresh with Data/fetch_ct_grand_list_indicators.py.

How current it can be: Posted for three state fiscal years at a time and revised as the budget is enacted and adjusted; the publisher calls the earlier years actual grant amounts and the latest an estimate. None is an audited receipt.

Median household income, per-capita income, population, median home value and median gross rent for every town. Gross rent includes utilities the renter pays, and is carried with its margin of error.
How current it can be: One release each December, pooling the previous five years of survey responses; adjacent releases overlap by four years, so a change between two releases is not a one-year change.

For each town's resident students, by the type of school they attend: enrollment, attendance, chronic absenteeism, Smarter Balanced proficiency and growth, and SAT scores.
How current it can be: Spring test results and attendance appear the following summer; the dashboard carries the three most recent school years. The discipline tab lags a further year and is not used here.

For every district that operates a town's public schools: administrator, teacher and other staffing counts by assignment-category group over nineteen school years, October 1 enrollment, general and school-based administration spending, and the towns each district serves.
How current it can be: Joins three sources with different clocks. Staffing and enrollment follow the October 1 collection and appear during the school year; the expenditure file follows the fiscal year and runs about a year behind it. The file can never be newer than its oldest input, and the two year axes are kept separate inside it. Carries no salary data: the state publishes none.

The file the six school-results pages actually read: every district's three-year outcomes, covariates, regression residuals and intervals, and every town's resident-student results by school type, cut from the full model.
How current it can be: Rebuilt by Data/build_school_peer_model.py and Data/build_school_performance_page.py whenever an input above is refreshed; it can never be newer than its oldest input.

A series can be behind the calendar without being stale. Audited town finances take about three years to be filed, audited and crosswalked by OPM; the Next Generation Accountability index is computed the winter after a school year ends; a Census 5-year estimate is published the December after its window closes and pools five years of responses. In each case the latest period in the file is the latest the publisher has released as of the collection date. When a page uses a year older than the latest in a file, its “How this ranking is made” note says why — usually because two figures in a ratio must come from the same year.
Two school years are missing from every test-based series: no state tests were given in spring 2020, so 2019-20 and 2020-21 have no proficiency, growth or accountability figures. Charts across those years carry a gap, not a zero.
