Every Town, Every Headline Figure — All 169 Connecticut Towns

One sortable table of every Connecticut town's headline figures — spending, tax rates, tax base, income, reserves and debt — each column with its year and source, and the whole table as one CSV.

← All statewide rankings

Picking a town highlights it in every chart and table on this page, and the highlight follows you to the other ranking pages. Clear the box to remove it.

Rank 1 is the lowest figure. That is the rule on every page of this site, and a rank is a position, not a grade. Another source, such as the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities’ data hub, may list towns highest first; check which end a position counts from before comparing it with one here. Each column is one dataset for one year, printed under its heading: audited actuals, posted mill rates, the assessed grand list and Census survey estimates cover different periods and are not combined.

Every town, every headline figure

169 towns and 21 measures, the same figures each town’s own pages print. Click a column heading to sort by it; click again to reverse. The shaded row under the headings is the statewide median, given for rates, shares and per-person figures. Under each of those figures is the town’s rank among the towns reported, 1 being the lowest.

Download CSV ct_town_latest.json One row per town. The CSV’s second and third lines give each column’s year and source; an empty cell means the source did not report a figure, not zero.

Source: ct_town_latest.json, built at each site build from the files each town’s pages read: CT OPM Municipal Fiscal Indicators (ej6f-y2wf), Mill Rates (emyx-j53e) and Net Grand List by Town (webp-fgt3); US Census ACS 5-year (B19013, B25077); CSDE Net Current Expenditures Per Pupil (ct_ncep_towns.json) and District Reference Groups; Census planning regions. The section below names each column’s dataset and year.

How this table is made

Nothing on this table is typed in. At each build the site reads every town’s figures from the same data files its own pages chart, and writes them to ct_town_latest.json and ct_towns_latest.csv. This page reads the first of those. A test checks every cell against the figure the town’s own page prints.

ncep_per_pupil
School year FY 2024-25 CT State Department of Education, Net Current Expenditures Per Pupil (CGS 10-261) (CSDE NCEP), via ct_ncep_towns.json —
of 169 towns
The state Department of Education's per-pupil figure: net current expenditures divided by the average daily membership of the resident students a town pays for. Excludes transportation, capital, debt service and adult education. Labeled by school year, which is not the audited fiscal year of the OPM columns. For a town whose regional district runs every grade, the figure is the district's and the cell names the district, so the member towns of one district tie.
Net grand list
net_grand_list
Grand list 2025 CT OPM, Net Grand List by Town (webp-fgt3), via ct_grand_list_classes.json not given for a size or a category Assessed value of all taxable property, at 70% of market value. Labeled by grand list year, which runs ahead of the fiscal year that taxes it.

The levy restated against the market value of the town's property, as OPM publishes it for the audited year. Comparable between towns and across a revaluation; the posted rate is not. The tax-rates ranking page computes a newer equalized rate from the current levy.

  • Rank. Rank 1 is the LOWEST value on every page of this site, and a rank is a position, not a grade. Other sources, and tables sorted highest first, may count from the other end; check which end a rank counts from before comparing it with one read here. Tied towns share the lowest position the value could hold.
  • Missing. A figure the source did not report is null here and an empty cell in the CSV. It is never 0.
  • Years. Each column is one dataset. Audited actuals (ej6f-y2wf), posted mill rates (emyx-j53e), the assessed grand list (webp-fgt3), CSDE's per-pupil figure (school years) and ACS estimates each keep their own year; they are different periods and are not combined. Audited figures run about three years behind the budget year; the data sources page says why for each dataset.
  • Medians. statewide_median is the middle town among those reported for the column's year. It is given for rates, shares and per-unit figures only, not for sizes.
  • Top-coded income. The Census publishes a town’s median household income at 250,001 when it is at or above the top of its range. That figure is a floor, not a point; the table marks it, and the CSV carries the Census annotation in median_household_income_note.
  • Regional school districts. Where a regional district runs every grade, the state reports per-pupil spending for the district, not for each member town, so each member town carries the district’s figure and they tie. The table marks those cells and names the district, and the CSV names it in ncep_per_pupil_note.
  • The CSV. Line 1 is each column’s field key, line 2 its year, line 3 its dataset, then one line per town. UTF-8, comma-separated. Shares are fractions from 0 to 1; money is in dollars.

Data as of 2026-10-02: The date the figures in this file last changed. The collection date of each dataset is on /rankings/data-sources.html.
