ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATION FOR USE OF PRIVATE TECHNOLOGY BY STUDENTS

Building level administrators, in consultation with the Superintendent and in compliance with this policy, other
district policies, regulations, rules, and procedures, are authorized to determine the extent of the use of
technology devices within their schools, on the school's property, and while students are attending that school's
sponsored activities.

The district reserves the right to restrict the use of technology devices at any time.
Guidelines:
Bacon Academy

Building administrators are authorized to determine the extent of the use of technology devices. Students are
allowed to bring such devices (cell phones, smart phones, laptops, e-readers, tablets, etc.) onto the school
property. These devices may be used for educational or instructional purposes unless prohibited by staff.

Portable Electronic Communication Devices

Building administrators are authorized to determine the extent of the use of electronic communication devices. Students are
allowed to bring electronic communication devices (cell phones, smart phones, laptop, E-readers, tablets, etc.) onto the school
property during school hours. Electronic communication devices may be used in accordance with Board policy. Unless a teacher
determines otherwise, electronic communication devices must be turned off upon entering any instructional area and remain off
until the student leaves the instructional area. Students should utilize the district provided chromebooks when completing
classroom assignments. Instructional areas include, but are not limited to, classrooms, gymnasiums, field trip locations,
auditoriums, band rooms, and chorus rooms. Electronic communication device use is prohibited in these areas except for
classroom instructional-related activities initiated by a teacher. The school is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen electronic
communication devices.

To minimize distractions and support a focused learning environment, all teachers will implement the use of classroom cellphone
holders. Upon entering class, students will be required to place their phones in the designated holder. Non-compliance will prompt

the teacher to notify the office, where the student’s phone will be held for the rest of the school day.

William J. Johnston Middle School


Building administrators are authorized to determine the extent of the use of technology devices. Students are
allowed to bring such devices (cell phones, smart phones, laptops, e-readers, tablets, etc.) onto the school
property. Cell phones must be turned off and in lockers all day.

Jack Jackter Intermediate School

Use of Personal Devices
Students may bring personal devices such as phones or smartwatches, but these must be turned off and
kept in lockers during the school day unless a teacher provides permission for educational use. Devices
used without permission may be held in the office for parent pickup.

Electronics on the Bus
Personal electronics, such as phones or tablets, may be used quietly on the bus if permitted by the bus
driver. However, Colchester Public Schools is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen devices.
Headphones are strongly encouraged. Recording, taking photos or sharing content is not allowed.

Colchester Elementary School

Building administrators are authorized to regulate the use of technology devices. Students are allowed to bring
technology devices onto school property and use them for classroom or instructional-related activities only when
communication devices are provided by insurance. Technology devises may not be used on a school bus.
