School Proposal
Why a school within a
school at Bacon Academy?
Proposed theme:
The theme of this magnet school will be the Public Service Academy of Eastern
Connecticut, and the curricular pathways will align coursework that leads to
industry-standard credentials in public service fields including, but not limited to:
● Fire & Public Safety
○ Emergency Medical Response (Lifeguard, EMS)
● Healthcare
○ Certified Nurse Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Sports Medicine
● Education
● Aviation and Air Force ROTC
The State’s role as a partner:
The District plans to fund the interdistrict magnet school through tuition costs
borne by State funding.
We would pursue partnerships with local hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, the
YMCA, and the Department of Environmental Protection as well as work with
representatives from the Regional School Choice office and office of Strategic
Planning and Partnerships.
Tuition, transportation, and recruitment will all be supported by the state.
Facilities included in the proposal:
The magnet proposal includes Construction of a single level metal building with
a 42’x125’ footprint consisting of 5,250 sqft that includes:
● Two classrooms
● Two instructional Offices
● One double room to serve as a multipurpose room/lab with one wall of built
in storage with Portable partition to split the room when needed
● Two accessible restrooms
● Two storage spaces
● Garage for rescue utility vehicle
● One utility Room
Anticipated timeline:
January 2024-September 2024 - Development of curriculum and program
pathways
September 2024 - August 2025 - Recruitment of students
January-August 2025 - Hiring of teachers for the 25/26 academic year
August 2025 - Orientation for the first cohort of students
June 2028 & 2029 - Graduation of first cohort

not every Bacon Academy student is a
