Dear Colchester Board of Education, Superintendent Daniel Sullivan,, and Principal Judy
O’Meara,
It is with mixed emotions that | write to inform you about my impending retirement after
teaching 35 years. My expected last day of teaching will be November 1, 2024, giving me a full
retirement.
It’s been my honor to have worked in Colchester for the last 24 years. I was first hired in 2000 as
a special educator and then transitioned to literacy specialist in 2008. I’ve worked with such
amazing and dedicated colleagues over the years and have had the wonderful opportunity to read
with hundreds of inspiring young readers. I even trained and certified two therapy dogs to have
them sit with readers during reading workshops on a monthly basis for over 10 years. COVID
ended my recent dog’s run. Maybe someday, I’ll try it again.
Retiring in the fall after initial ELA screeners are completed, instructional focuses are assigned
and reading routines established, will allow me to assist in the transition of my successor, if
needed.
I look forward to my new chapter spending more time with my family and having more
opportunities to pursue hobbies. It has been my honor to work in such a supportive and caring
community.
