Students are to be excused from school upon written request from parent or guardian for any
major religious holidays. Students will be given the right to make up tests and will not be
deprived of any awards because of absences on religious holidays.
Although the schools shall cooperate with parents in requests for student absences for dental,
medical, legal, and other personal matters, parents or guardians should not remove students
from school unless absolutely necessary and unless said appointments cannot be scheduled
any other time. The school district encourages that student appointments be made for after
school hours or on weekends, vacations, and holidays. If this is impossible, parents/guardians
should provide advance notice to the Principal of school day appointments for students.
Principals and teachers shall continually emphasize that students should not be taken out of
school unless absolutely necessary. Students' and parents' as well as teachers' and
administrators' appointments can often be made after school or on Saturday. The idea that a
student should attend school must become an imperative in his/her mind.
Requests for student absences for dental and medical services should be made by advanced
notification.
