Assessment of Student Learning:
The music in this show, Young Frankenstein, was not composed for this musical, which
gives a unique opportunity to learn about where the famous pieces originate and how
they (appropriately or not) fit into this particular show.
-Students will listen to excerpts of the music prior to watching the show in order to begin
analyzing the implications for performance.
-After seeing the show we will have an informal discussion about the music including
how the context around the creation of the pieces informed their response to the
performances of the pieces. How the performers’ interpretation, stage presence,
dynamic contrast, musicality, and acting all contributed to the musical intent. Whether
the musical choices were appropriate for this context.
-Students will also submit a written response with their analysis of the above prompts.
*For students who choose not to attend this field trip due to COVID concerns see
alternative assignment below.
1. Choose one composer from the list of composers we are studying for this show
and create a short youtube playlist of 5 other famous pieces by the same
composer. Research he composer to find out what their most popular pieces
could be. Explain it’s popularity.
2. Choose three pieces off the list of music being performed in this show. Watch two
different performances of the same piece on youtube and compare and contrast
each performance. How do they differ? Does the context change your response
to the piece? Which do you prefer and why?
COVID Safety Measures
The performance takes place outside under a covered pavilion specially built in
response to COVID. The Ogunquit Playhouse has implemented “masks in motion’.
Patrons must wear a mask while out of their seats. Pods (2 seats together) are spaced
3 feet apart. While seated, masks may be removed.
Students are expected to:
-Wear a mask on the bus.
-Wear a mask any time they are indoors.
-Wear a mask while walking around outside while at the venue.
