Recently I communicated to you via Reference (A) about a request to cease and desist in requirements
for outdoor mask usage. Recently, I have learned more information and wanted to supplement the
original letter.
On May 20, 2021, the State Department of Education communicated updated mask guidelines to
schools via Attachment (1). This document significantly improves the guidance on outdoor mask
requirements. The following excepts are helpful:
• “Specific to outdoor settings, masks are not required,”
• “Where students are actively moving around during recess or physical education activities,
masks can be removed.”
As stated in Reference (A), the science and law are clear: outdoor mask usage is not required. As stated
in Attachment (1), the State Department of Education has provided guidance that masks are not
required outdoors.
I’m unsure on how to make this more clear: continuing an outdoor mask requirement is insane. There
may be parents who enjoy the outdoor mask mandate- that’s unfortunate. It’s unfortunate they have
been frightened by the media and politicians to the point where they would violate the freedoms of
their neighbors. A violation of personal liberty that can not continue because there is simply no science,
law, or state guidance that would allow this abuse to continue. This abuse is causing irreparable harm.
In conclusion, the science, the state law, and the state department of education guidance is clear: it is
time to discontinue outdoor mask wearing requirements. I request that you immediately cease and
desist all requirements for outdoor mask usage.
