                                   FILLING VACANCIES

Any vacancy occurring on the Board of Education shall be filled as soon as practical, by
the appointment of a competent and qualified person for the unexpired portion of term.
It is traditional, but not obligatory, that vacancies be filled by a person of the same
political affiliation as the member creating the vacancy. The same political party as the
departing member shall be asked for recommendations and the citizens of Colchester
will be notified, by the Superintendent putting an announcement in the local papers,
informing them of their right to nominate themselves. The nominees will also make
themselves available for interviews at the meeting at which they are nominated.
The final decision rests with the Board of Education when the vacancy will be filled. The
nominee shall be considered a member of the Board of Education if selected by a
majority vote of the members present of the Board of Education and the action shall be
recorded in the meeting minutes of that meeting.

This appointee shall serve until the next regular election of the Board. At this election,
the electors shall elect a successor to fill the unexpired term.
