Dear Members of the Board of Finance and Board of Education,
I am outraged. Both boards have failed the people of Colchester. You’ve abandoned your duty, ignored
accountability, and treated taxpayer money like a game of Monopoly. This isn’t governance—it’s a
betrayal of public trust.
The Board of Education has blown through money it never budgeted for1—and the Board of Finance sat
back and played along with the charade. Instead of demanding accountability, you accepted a meaningless
letter from the BOE Chair. The only right response was to haul them in and demand answers. Where did
they pad their budget? Why wasn’t it exposed? You’re not providing oversight. It looks more like
complicity in wasteful spending than true accountability.
And now comes the bombshell: the Superintendent just received a massive pay increase—without a full
board vote. On June 18th, the BOE authorized the Chair to negotiate a new contract. Most would expect
the Chair to return with a contract for a proper vote. But not this clown car. Instead, the agreement gave
the Superintendent a 3% raise in base salary, a 36% increase in retirement contributions, and total
compensation over $260,000 plus health benefits—all while Colchester families struggle to make ends
meet.
You’re giving Colchester’s highest-paid employee a 6% raise with zero public scrutiny and no vote in
front of the people. Citizens can’t even bring this up at a BOE meeting, because it won’t appear on the
agenda. This is shameful. This is reckless. This is a betrayal of the taxpayers who trust you to protect their
money.
Honestly—what do you have to say for yourselves? Do you even care anymore? Because from where I
sit, it doesn’t look like it. If you cannot or will not do the job properly, then have the decency to resign.
Colchester deserves leaders who work for the people—not a circus of incompetence and waste.

On August 19, 2025, the BOE approved yet another expense outside the budget: accreditation for the district.
Accreditation for the district is not required by law, and from my research to date, no town in Connecticut actually
holds it. This appears to be an unnecessary expense, done more for résumé padding than for serving students.
